NCT Star Awards 2010
Nisha C Thobhani, a skin care analyst from Leicester, lost her life prematurely at 31 years old whilst at work in Nottingham. She worked for pharmaceutical company Reckitt Benckiser and was very committed to community affairs. She volunteered for many voluntary organisations and was very active in supporting people to learn British Sign Language and gave her free time at Leicester Deaf Centre.

Juggling many interests which included astronomy, car mechanics and yoga she also found time to support the performing arts. She would often get involved for events organised by Desi Masti, Fairytales 18,72 to support children and young people. Though Nisha was not a dancer, she understood the value of engaging in creative arts as an important way of

a) bringing people together b) developing confidence c) acquiring new skills d) team building.

She signed for a performance of Shaadi Ke Rang (2006) at Leicester Haymarket Theatre and taught the entire cast to communicate in basic sign to enable them to interact with the Deaf audience.

For all those who were blessed to know Nisha they can only tell you of her warmth and radiance. The sort of individual who would bring a glow to any situation. Her life of selfless service was admirable to all those around her. She never searched for accolades, she just liked doing things. Her dedication and tireless work were the inspiration for setting up NCT Star Awards in 2007. The first event was the same year of her death. Her family and friends continue to support the NCT Star Awards to honour Nisha, but also to celebrate the achievements and talents of so many hidden gems in our community.

NCT Star Awards celebrates community achievement and encompasses a National dance competition in search of the best South Asian influenced dancers. Individuals and groups will battle it out for a cash prize and the title NCT Star Dancer 2010.

The 2010 NCT Star Awards will be held on 14th November 2010 at Curve Theatre. It was one of the last of the great new theatres opened in the last 10 years and is considered one of the most technologically advanced theatres in the UK.

Tickets for the Gala event are available by visiting www.curveonline.co.uk
